NHL Betting Preview – 17th February 2020

Washington Capitals @ Vegas Golden Knights

When: 17th February, 6 p.m.

Where: T-Mobile Arena

Our Pick: Washington Capitals

The Washington Capitals are on the back of a poor run of form. They won just 1 of their last 4 games. A lot of eyes are still on Alex Ovechkin’s search for a few goals. The captain of the Capitals is sitting at 698 career goals and hasn’t scored for the last 4 games. Not for lack of trying the winger had 17 attempts at goal in the match against the Coyotes but none managed to hit the back of the net. Washington will not see the return of Evengy Kuznetsov, missing his third game in a row due to an injury to his upper body.

Due to Washington’s dip in form, their dominance of the Metropolitan Division has been reduced to a single point. If the Capitals can’t manage a win they might drop off from the top of the Metropolitan Division. The Golden Knights pulled off a win in their last 2 matches and have their sights set on making the playoffs. Vegas also lost Alex Touch on Thursday. The Golden Knights might decide to re-evaluate some trades before the deadline.

The Capitals should end their dry run to stay on top of the Metropolitan Division. Washington are (+110) here at VIP. This should be when Ovechkin manages to nab a goal and at least half the amount he needs to reach 700 career goals.

Tampa Bay Lightning @ Colorado Avalanche

When: 17th February, 9 p.m.

Where: Pepsi Center

Our Pick: Tampa Bay Lightning

Colorado has lost its last two home games after a five-game winning streak. Avalanche were poor in their game against the LA Kings. They lost Matt Calvert and Philipp Grubauer and may be light coming up against Tampa Bay. Tampa Bay Lightning is fighting against the Boston Bruins for the Division.

The Bruins have picked up two points yesterday so Tampa Bay will have to grab a win to keep up with the Bruins. They are extremely likely to make the playoffs regardless but with 22 games left the sooner the better. Blake Coleman mike makes a debut for Tampa Bay Lightning, but it is more likely to be making his debut against Vegas.

Lightning is on the back of a 10-game win streak and will travel to Denver and make it 11 by all accounts. Get Tampa Bay at (-110) with no line at VIP.

Columbus Blue Jackets @ Philadelphia Flyers

When: 18th February, 7 p.m.

Where: Wells Fargo Center

Our Pick: Philidelphia Flyers

The Columbus Blue Jackets are on a five-game losing streak and need a win. They are just one point ahead of the Flyers in the Metropolitan Division. After winning seven of their last eleven games the Flyers are in the hunt for a playoff spot. The Columbus Blue Jackets have been excellent defensively only allowing three or fewer goals in 12 of their last 13 games.

The Blue Jackets have been good value in the underdog spot for most of this season. Since the Flyers are in a great run of form and Columbus has been lackluster over the past few weeks it is likely they will end up on a 6-game losing streak. It will be a tight affair as the Blue Jackets are strong at the back. Get the Flyers at (-145) with no line as it will be two goals at most that separate the teams.
