Premier League Top Goalscorer Betting

When it comes to the hunt for the Premier League title, goals are the currency that is most valuable and for those teams who have genuine desires of being crowned champion at the end of the season, a marksman or two within their ranks is an absolute necessity.

Because without trying to simplify the beautiful game too much, without goals you cannot win matches and if you are not winning enough matches, the richest prize or even qualification to the Champions League will elude you.

Which is why big-name forwards come at an absolute premium in terms of transfer market value and it is these men who are charged with the task of terrorising opposition defenders on a weekly basis.

Should that task be fulfilled, then the usual suspects will find themselves in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot and in this article, we are going to run through the contenders for this season’s award.

What Is The Golden Boot?

Although football and the pursuit of the Premier League crown is very much a team sport, there are also individual honours up for grabs and one of those is the Golden Boot award. An award which is handed to the player who scores the most goals per season.

Last season saw Harry Kane score 23 goals for Tottenham and in doing so, became only one of three different players who have won the award on three separate occasions. However, one should not forget that Thierry Henry’s time at Arsenal, saw him lead the charts an unprecedented four times.

The Contenders

If this article was to be created at the beginning of August, the list would be considerably different and with a number of high-profile signings being made towards of the most recent transfer window, it means some new (albeit returning) names have now entered the fray.

Cristiano Ronaldo (+250 with VIPCasino)

When it comes to any discussion regarding top scorers, then the Portuguese icon is always going to have a rather large say on the matter and although he is not quite at the peak of his Real Madrid powers from a decade ago, he is still an exceptional talent.

A talent that is now able to call Old Trafford home once more and with Manchester United acquiring the services of the 36-year-old from Juventus, the Red Devils’ championship hopes will have been given a substantial shot in the arm.

Then again, when it comes to all things Cristiano, there is no doubting his desire to constantly be in the spotlight and if he can continue the form that was witnessed on his second debut for the club, he will certainly be a contender for this season’s Golden Boot award.

The only thing that punters may have to be mindful of, is whether or not manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decides to rest him for bigger games around the corner and if that is the case, this will obviously diminish the Portuguese star’s ability to find the net.

Romelu Lukaku (+250 with VIPCasino)

Another player who has returned back to where it all started in the Premier League and with Romelu Lukaku once again able to call Stamford Bridge home, he will be charged with helping the Blues return to the domestic summit.

With the brute force and tenacity that he has at his disposal, there is no question that the Belgian will be Chelsea’s main man in attack this season and with three goals in as many appearances, his start to the campaign has been as good as expected.

If anything, it has been better than expected and with a litany of attacking talent in place to act as his own personal supply line, the former Inter Milan striker will surely be amongst the goals on a regular basis.

Many will feel that the return of Lukaku, is the world-class forward that Chelsea have been missing and with Manchester City failing to land a genuine target man of their own – in order to replace Sergio Aguero, the balance of Premier League power may just tilt towards West London.

Harry Kane (+850 with VIPCasino)

In previous years, backing Harry Kane to win the Golden Boot award would be considered a rather shrewd move and although there is no reason not to back the England international this time around, there are questions regarding his aptitude at present.

Aptitude that has been questioned after his perceived desire to join Manchester City in the off-season and although Kane is still based at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for now, many feel that his heart is based at the Etihad.

Then again, if Kane is eventually to earn a move to the blue half of Manchester, he will need to deliver the goals this season and with Tottenham having just one recognised centre forward to call upon, there will not be much in the way of a goal split between he and his teammates.

Because whereas Manchester City have an abundance of options to choose from in terms of goal getters, Tottenham do not, and this means there will certainly be an overreliance on the talents of Kane. Talents, that could still land the Golden Boot at the end of this campaign.

Mohamed Salah (+450 with VIPCasino)

The last name our list is someone who has won the award twice before and like any good forward, Mohamed Salah will not be resting on his laurels – especially, as the Egyptian aims to snare the accolade for a third time in his career.

After back-to-back award wins in 2017/18 and 2018/19 (the latter being a three-way joint award with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Sadio Mane), the former Fiorentina and Roma forward will now look to regain what he feels is rightfully his.

While last season, he only missed out on the award by a single goal and with Harry Kane scoring away at Leicester on the final day of the previous campaign, the Liverpool talisman was deprived another personal goalscoring accolade.

However, Salah is never one to feel hard done by and with three goals being netted in his first four appearances of the 2021/22 league season, he is seemingly picking up from where he almost left off in May.
